Industrial machines of high complexity
TPU A/S have a long history within design of complex machinery for the most demanding applications.
Composite industrial parts
I the cases where demanding requirements towards stiffness to weight ratio or near zero thermal expansion exists, composite structure find its way into machine building. Typical applications are optical telescope structures and highly dynamic robotic arms.
The carbon fiber structures, adhesive joints etc. are all etailed analyzed using FEM tools and designed accordingly.
Design for manufacturing plays (as always) a significant role as composite materials are manufactured using very specific methods.
TPU A/S has experience with most types of carbon fiber manufacturing methods, and are aware of design limitations and other considerations for among others:
Prepreg hand layup
Filament winding
Dry hand layup with resin infusion
Metals used in combination with carbon fiber can be high end materials such as Alloy 36 (Invar 36) to match near zero thermal expansion (as in shown pictures). In other cases lightweight alloys for dynamic applications are chosen.
